Keto Snacks on the Go – Choosing Keto Friendly Options

Keto Snacks on the Go

When you’re out and about and need to refuel keto style

Have you been following the ketogenic way of eating but found yourself stuck for food that won’t throw you out of ketosis when you’re on the road or rushing around doing those pesky errands? Have you considered what keto snacks on the go would be?

Wouldn’t it be fabulous if we could all have a portable fridge to take with use everywhere with our leftovers or fresh food etc. Unfortunately this not very practical getting on with our day to day activities.

It would also be great to stick to only real food, unprocessed, even raw. While this is always the better choice, if you are out and about and get hungry, you won’t want to cave and succumb to a high carb, sugary or savoury option. I’m all for being realistic and trying to make things easier where possible.

So to be prepared just in case you need to eat something but can’t find a keto friendly option when you’re out, I’ve created this list of foods. Handy on the go keto snacks that won’t throw you out of ketosis while you are getting on with your day.

Sweet

Perfect Keto Bars

These babys have been developed and worked on over a 12 month period, creating a real ingredients bar without the nasty chemicals, fillers or sugar syrups.

They contain 19 grams of the healthy fats that help with hair skin and nail health. With 10 grams of protein and only 3 grams of carbs, these snacks on the go ensure you stay in ketosis with the right macros. Comes in the delicious flavor using almond and cacao butter.

Kiss My Keto Bars

There’s a variety of flavors including Chocolate Cookie Dough, Chocolate Peanut Butter and Chocolate Coconut.

These also have the perfect macros ratio of 19 grams fat, 9 grams protein and 3 grams carbs. Ensuring this snack on the go will keep you in ketosis and not reaching for the high carb sugary options. They have the addition of MCT’s and prebiotic fiber, helping you manage any cravings to get you through your busy day.

Keto Brownies

There are a couple of options here.

These KetoBrownie bars come in 2 flavors, Keto Blondie and Chocolate Almond. Pictured is the KetoBlondie flavor.

They will keep you in ketosis, and provide you with the right macro balance – 16 grams Fat, 9 grams Protein, and only 3 grams Carbs. keto snacks on the go

The second brownie is the Atkins Endulge Brownie Bar. Here’s another chocolate brownie for an alternative to the above brownie option. This one has only 2 grams of carbs. Sometimes, it’s just nice to have some variety, so you don’t have the same one over and over. Not that you will be having these treats too frequently, it’s also good to have alternative options for those on the go keto snacks.

Protein Bar – Doctor’s CarbRite Protein

Then there’s these little gems that meet the keto criteria of low carb, sugar free and portable. They are also deliciously high in the healthy fats which will help you feel full and eat less. They also only have 1.5 net carbs. You aren’t likely to over eat on these treasures, so they will be a handy on the go keto snack with added nutrition of protein.

keto snacks on the goKeto Bark

This has such a great name, I love it! No added sugar, with only 2 grams net carbs per serve.

Another cool thing about these is that they use Monk Fruit instead of any artificial sweeteners or sugar alcohols. The awesome thing about monk fruit is it’s a natural sweetener. It’s made using a fruit found in Southeast Asia known as monk fruit. It was originally used by monks, hence the name. Flavors include almonds, hazelnut, coconut and peanut. keto snacks on the go

Savory

keto snacks on the go

If you don’t have a sweet tooth which isn’t surprising once you go keto, then you might not want any of the above options as one of your keto snacks on the go. Don’t have a freak out! It’s okay, there are savory options also available for you too!

Cheese Bars

If you are looking for something that is less sweet tasting, but more savoury instead, there’s these cheese bars made in a variety of 4 flavors. These are Jalapeno, Grilled Cheese, Aged Cheddar & Mild Cheddar. They also come a smaller 16 half-ounce packs which have more flavors – White Cheddar, Wisconsin Cheddar and Garlic and Chive.

These would also make a great school lunch idea to replace those sugary options with these fabulous cheese bars instead.

So get your cheese on and take these with you when you know you’ve got a big day ahead and need something quick, easy and portable

keto snacks on the goNuts

keto snacks on the go

I hesitated in including nuts as they are not created, or processed in any way, however the humble nut, especially the low carb ones are perfect options for if you are out and about, and need to munch on something. They are often found in a low carb kitchen, so it’s handy to through together your fave nuts in a container and take with you to munch on and get you through the day keto style. Nuts have such value to the keto way of eating as they contain high amounts of healthy fats, filling you up faster while also being low carb. To find out what the carbs are in nuts pop over to this post where I have this listed.

Jerky

What is a keto snack without mention of jerky. What I love about these is they don’t have added sugar. Having been cured over a 14 day period is also appealing as this makes them more tender. They don’t have any artificial additives unlike regular Jerky, and they are sourced from grass-fed beef. These are also a great alternative to protein shakes. Perfect for you to take on the go.

Salami Sticks

These are handy sticks of high protein meaty goodness. Made with  Black Angus Beef, Street Cart Shawarma and Lamb Merguez flavors.

These are definitely keto friendly. They are high protein, low carb and sugar free go anywhere salami sticks.

Put it all Together

So I hope this list of sweet and savory keto snacks on the go gives you some ideas to keep you in ketosis instead of kicking you out when you’re out and about :).

I'm intrigued by Keto Bark and have decided I must have some. I haven't had jerky in ages and forgot how incredibly delicious it is. You've inspired me to have a re-think about my snacking options and being prepared for when I'm out, mostly at work when I reach for chocolate and biscuits. Thanks

  13. Been researching some potential diet plans, the keto diet is one that keeps coming up in the research of which plan to work with. After reading this post and realizing the snack options, which they look pretty darn good even if I don't decide to try the keto plan.

The Keto bark looks good and being from Wisconsin one can't pass up the idea of cheese bars!

    1. Hey Scott thanks for dropping by. I hope this post can help you choose some snack options if you do choose to go Keto. If not, then you can still choose these snacks as part of your diet plan as whatever you decide, these won't impact on your goals :)

  14. The keto foods are very good for me each time I am on the go, I use it to achieve good balance coz time may fail me to really relax somewhere to eat what I may feel like to eat but with the keto foods I can easily achieve ketosis no matter how busy my schedule might be.

    1. Hey, yes, having something with you will allow you to not cave if you don't have time to get something more substantial while out and about.

  15. Hi Kat - thanks for these great suggestions for Keto snacks on the go.  I’ve been hearing a lot about the Keto diet, and am considering trying it.  I think it’s important to plan ahead and have healthy snacks on hand while you’re out and about.  That way you won’t give in and eat something bad for you.  I would prefer the savory snacks over the sweet, so thank you for including those.

    Thanks,

    Michele

    1. Hi Michelle, thanks for sharing your thoughts. It definitely does help to be prepared when following a particular way of eating. I too enjoy the savoury. All the best.

  16. This is a lovely post and i can also say its an eye opener for me in so many ways. I have a little experience with ketobars and keto brownies and i must you your reviews about them are just on point. I am hoping to try out keto bark and others anytime soon. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Hi Ola, thanks for your comment. It's great having some on the go options for keto hey :).

  17. Great list of handy Keto snacks for on the go. I always check out the snack bars in the average supermarket, but they are always high in sugar and carbs. Not good even the so-called protein bars are too many sugars. Now I see this Keto bars and even I am not on a Keto diet these fit in perfectly with my food regime. I will check where I can find or order these Kete Bark with Monk fruit seems perfect for me. Nuts are also always a good one as long not salted.

    Great info thanks for sharing

    1. Hey, yes, it's hard to find good snacks without the added sugar! It's good that you're looking and checking to make sure the ones that claim to be healthy actually are or not. Anything with high sugar in them is not a healthy option. Steer clear of the sugar! Thanks for sharing.

  18. I have to admit I'm more a nuts and salami sticks kinda guy when it comes to Keto snacks, but it was great take she read about some alternatives, because eating the same snacks all the time gets really boring. The last thing you want to do is find that the food you're eating is boring, since that can become a barrier to eating it. I often do look at recipes to make some healthy Keto bars myself, but as with most of us, time is an issue, so the better solution, for me anyway, is just to buy something that fits the requirements. Thanks for the good ideas.

    Mark

    1. It can get very boring sticking to the same food, so changing it up a bit is definitely helpful when it comes to keeping on track. Thanks for stopping by.

  19. Thank you for this highly informational post you've shared, and the friendly options you've shown too.I'm learning a whole lot these days. Usually i eat more of unprocessed foods, probably because of my connection to agriculture.I'm quite glad you've shared helpful options for needy momentsFor me, aside nuts,  the preferred option will be the cheese bars; savoury and less sugary is my best pick.I had a great read here, thanks once again, hope to come around some more

    1. Hey, it's good to be learning new things, especially when it comes to your health. The less sugary options the better! Thanks for stopping by.

  20. It's an honour to come across this awesome website, very educative and informative on low carb protein bars out there that provide a good dose of protein without the unnecessary sugars that would throw you off of ketosis. Although i haven't tried them before now, I'll surely give the keto blondie a try, which is my favorite.

    1. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts. I'm glad to hear that you've found a flavor you are interested in trying. Enjoy :)

  21. Hi Kat

This is great. Finding low-carb (or just generally health) stacks on the go is not easy. This is a great summary of what options people have, including the nuts and jerky. It is refreshing to see a stand-alone protein-packed meat stack as a healthy option; so much bad, and wrong press about meat.

While I don't need to cut my carbs, it's always good to cut out the sugars and over-processed stuff that mucks around with other health challenges.

One suggestion...putting a per-snack or per-serving estimated cost. Buying in bulk is great, but it's often clearer to compare what the per-serving cost is, especially if you're on the run and have to supplement with an over-the-counter stack when you've forgotten to grab one from home.

Great topic...keep up the good work. Cheers, Dave

    1. Hi Dave, thanks for sharing your thoughts and great idea to share the per item price. I will update that soon. I agree that avoiding the sugary stuff and overly processed foods are definitely things to avoid, so even these in moderation will also be helpful in being kind to the body. Thanks for taking the time to contribute :)

  22. Nuts! I always have a bag of them handy in my purse. :) I'm going to have to try those Kiss My Keto Bars: Chocolate Cookie Dough and the hazelnut Keto Bark. Sounds delicious! My husband and I kind of fell off the wagon here the last few months but I think it's time to hop back on again. Thanks for all the suggestions! Which is your favorite?

    1. HI Katie, nuts are always with me where ever I go too lol! Sometimes, I just want a little 'treat' so a small choccie fix will get me through on those days. the Kiss my Keto Bars are also my faves too. All the best to you for getting back on the wagon when you decide :). Feel free to return and check out the rest of my site for tips, ideas and inspiration.

  23. Dear Kat,

Thanks a lot for the helpful and informative post. This a very thorough and in-depth. Thank you for taking the time to do this.

My doctor said, nowadays we need to be very careful and think before we put anything inside our mouth.

Thanks a lot for the useful list of Keto snacks. To be honest some of my friends are in ketogenic diet in order to loss their weight and they are fully focused on low- or no-carb diet. So I am going to share your post with them and I am sure they gonna find more value from your post.

I love Nuts and its my favorite!

Food is our medicine and medicine is our food!

    Paul

    1. Thanks for commenting as well as sharing this with your friends. Much appreciated. The ketogenic diet is certainly a very good one for helping lose extra weight as well as helping the body heal and work optimally. All the best for you and your friends Paul :).

  24. I am not all that familiar with the Keto diet, but from what I do understand you are kind of replacing your intake of carbohydrates with fat. Since this diet may be hard to stay on especially when you are out and about it is good to see that there are some alternatives available. Not having a sweet tooth I was actually surprised at the other options such as the cheese bars. How good would the Keto diet be for a diabetic?

    1. Hi Maureen, thanks for stopping by. The keto diet is highly recommended by many doctors and nutritionists for diabetics, as it helps the body heal from the inflammation that makes the insulin not work as effectively. Plus when your body has less carbohydrates, your insulin has a break from having to work. When I had gestational diabetes I found going keto much better for my body to be able to work better without having ongoing highs from the insulin not working properly when I ate carbs. I would recommend a diabetic to look into keto further as you would need to adjust the insulin needs if changes were made to the diet. All the best.

  25. This is a pretty post for keto lovers. all of the keto bars is alluring and healthy. The most important of this bar is sugar-free unprocessed. After reading this post I also clear about keto snacks and I will add keto nuts in my snacks menu. Keto Brownies too. Thanks for the informative post about keto snacks and highly recommended for others.

    1. Hi Jafor, thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. I'm happy to hear you have new ideas to share with others now.

  26. I didn't know that there were actual keto snacks. Thanks a lot for that info. I am glad i came across it.

I was introduced to keto about 4 months ago and been trying to put a plan together. I am still trying to put a meal plan together and it's very helpful having these snacks.

I really wanna thank you for this!

    1. Hi Angella, I'm so glad you found this site if you've only just discovered these snacks. I hope this helps you on your keto journey. Well done for making the keto transition :)
