Vanilla Avocado Smoothie

Vanilla Avocado Smoothie

For those of you needing some ideas of how to increase your fat it does help to have some recipes on hand remind you. During my keto journey, I have found over the years that I would print out a recipe and keep it safe in my fave folder for next time. So with this in mind, I’m sharing my most recent smoothie so you can have that reminder recipe if you are drawing a blank on what to do to increase your healthy fats.

I also needed to use up my leftover avocado before it went to vegetable heaven aka the compost bin. I’m not a fan of wasting food, it impacts my budget as well as the environment so I created this recipe which is really just an adaptation from my original chocolate avocado smoothie.

What I like about this smoothie is that it doesn’t have that green look which notifies kids immediately that there’s something suspiciously healthy in there, and it helps boost the healthy fat to start the day off with.

The ingredients I have used are all sugar free and low carb.

Healthy Breakfast to Start the Day

Avocados are a great alternative to bananas. Bananas are high in carbs while avocados have only 2 grams net carbs making them ideal for a low carb or ketogenic diet. Many people are concerned about the idea of leaving out bananas in the diet, as they know that they contain potassium. Fear not, as avocados contain more potassium than bananas do with 14% per 100g compared to bananas having 10% per 100g.

The fibre contained in the avocado also helps replace the so called ‘high fibre’ cereals promoted in sugar laden cereal boxes for breakfast. The healthy thing about fibre is it helps feed the friendly bacteria in the gut. A 100 gram (3.5 ounce) avocado has 7 grams of fibre, consisting of both soluble and insoluble fibre. Fibre being helpful in losing weight, reducing the risk of heart disease and reduces sugar spikes.

This smoothie also doesn’t have a strong flavor of avocado, masked by the vanilla, a blessing when trying to encourage kids and adults alike to switch from higher carb diet to higher healthy fats.

So here it is:
